Uncommon Favours: Hope For The Righteous

“But the Lord was kind and merciful to them. He would not let them be destroyed, but helped them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He has never forgotten his people”. II Kings 13:23 (GNT)

Favour is an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual. Another word for favour is “grace” or “mercy”, as illustrated in the index Bible text above. Divine favour is when a man finds favour in the sight of God. That man will cease to struggle for anything he desires. According to Proverbs 12:2, “A good man obtains favour from the Lord, but a man of evil devices he condemns”.

“Uncommon favour” simply means receiving special attention or focus from God in order to get something done for you. However, for you to benefit from this, you must be righteous and be a child of God, be a believer or have been “attached” to Jesus Christ. If you are connected to Jesus, then you are obliged to receive uncommon favour. The Bible in Isaiah 3:10 reads… “Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat of the fruit of their doings”. This is a solid assurance from God to the “righteous” that it shall not only be well with him but he shall partake of the fruits of his labour…. another promise of God to the righteous. This prophecy has been fulfilled in the life of many believers and righteous men and women.

There are quite a number of things money cannot buy; one of these played out in the course of the week just ended when one of the world’s prominent and richest men lost his “home”!! Another fascinating thing money cannot buy is “favour”. When God’s uncommon favour is upon your life, wonderful and special things will happen to you and for you. Only God’s favour can and will take you where nothing else can take you.

John 1:10 (GNT) reads: “Some, however did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God’s children.” In other words, favour is an inheritance of God’s children. You can become God’s favourite if you are a believer and righteous.

When you give your best to God, He will look at you with favour. According to the Bible in Genesis 4:4 (AMP), “But Abel brought an offering of the finest firstborn of his flock and the fat portions. And the Lord had respect (regard) for Abel and for his offering;” However, on Cain and his offering, He did not look with favour. Although with God, one person is not more important than another (see Romans 2:11), i.e. God does not show favouritism, He however has certain favourites. Some examples of God’s favourites include:

a. Mary. In Luke 1:28-31, Mary encountered uncommon favour because she was the one God singled out from among many virgins to be the mother of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. When “grace” chooses you, you will experience uncommon favour. However, you need Christ in you, as a believer, to be favoured.

b. Joseph. In Genesis 41:41-45, it was uncommon favour that made Joseph become the “Governor” in a strange land. This could only have happened because God willed it as an uncommon favour.

c. Esther. Uncommon favour brought Esther out of slavery and she became a queen… the king favoured her when he saw her. This ultimately led to her uncle, Mordecai being promoted. Furthermore, her original nation, Israel, received uncommon favour and is still existing powerfully today.

Uncommon favour is the birthright of all righteous believers. Our God is the source of all favours and He is not unfaithful to remember His children whenever they call on Him or when they need a “Wow” testimony. When you are a carrier of Christ, uncommon favour cannot be scarce for you. It is my prayer that as you are dressed up in the garment of uncommon favour today, your destiny helpers will remember you and something would happen in your life that will change your story for good in Jesus name. Amen.
